My Garden

This year is the year that I decided to plant a garden. I wasn't going to at first, but then my father-in-law came over with his tiller and got it all ready for me. So, on an impulse, I planted a garden. I definately do not have a green thumb. Ask my husband, he'll tell you that I cannot keep a plant alive. Although, in my defense, my living room plant is still alive. It's even been a few months!

Back to the garden. I've been trying to keep up with the weeds, but with the rain and my little boy who gets into things he shouldn't, it's been a challenge. Lately, everytime I turn my back, my son Aaron finds rocks to put in his mouth. You can usually tell when he has rocks in his mouth because of the look on his face and the ring of dirt around his mouth. And he won't quit. You take them out, tell him no, and turn your back again, and what does he do? More rocks.

Again, back to the garden. So today, my mom was here to dig up some ferns, and she got in the garden. And let's just say, it looks a whole lot better. Thanks mom! I'm hoping we'll actually get some vegetables out of this whole experience. If nothing else, my other son Jamin, is waiting for "his" vegetables to grow. I think it's great for him to see how things grow. I must say though, it would be a whole lot easier to just go to the grocery store and buy some. It's a lot of work. But who knows, maybe, just maybe, I'll do it again next year.

Yay, first commenter is me!
I totally understand the dirty mouth ring. My kids always look like that. Don't worry about the green thumb, if it keeps raining, then being hot, then raining all summer it'll look after itself! Won't it? I want to do a garden next summer. I'll have to get some tips from you, or your mom. lol.

Jordan has a plant too. It's in the house and she's not allowed to touch it, but she knows it's hers. What a wonderful gift for a child - something she can't touch, water or look at without getting scolded.

Sounds like a great gift. You might want the tips from my mom. I might be able to tell you what "not" to do. lol.

Just wait until you eat your own home grown tomato! It'll make it all worth while!

I didn't plant any tomatoes. But I'll enjoy my corn and peas. Oh yes, and the pickles I'm going to make.

Ooooh pickles! I have the best recipe for a sliced sweet pickle if you're interested. I tried them for the first time last summer - amazing!!

New recipe? For sure! I'll have to get it from you sometime. I just hope that the few cucumber plants that are growing will actually produce something. Preferrably a cucumber.
